The only law I obey is: people don't care about you or your website.
Might sound cruel, but that's the truth. People will come to your website to solve their problem.
It wouldn't be useful to you to build a website that you love, but doesn't respect user's (the user is your eventual constumer) expectations and desires.

So, please, think outside the box. Your website is not online to please you, but to make the user happy and convince him that you're the solution to his problem.
